Papatoetoe Tornado Event

Affected Families We are Thinking of You

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The staff and students of Puhinui School would like to send our thoughts and prayers out to all the families who have been affected by the freak tornado event on the weekend. We are thinking of you. For the families that have been significantly affected we hope you are able to get on the road to recovery as soon as possible and that you are able to recover from the damage with optimism and with good support.

We are not sure at this stage how many of our families have been affected, but we know the tornado impacted many streets in our school zone. We hope to get a more accurate idea in the next few days.

As a sign of our support we would like to organise food parcels for the affected families. Our staff will begin bringing items of food and general household items to school.

If your family would like to make a food or household items donation please send them to school with your child from tomorrow onwards.  Items can be left at the office or given to your child’s classroom teacher.  We will arrange the parcels and ensure they are delivered to the families of the area affected by the tornado.

If you are one of the families affected from our school, and If you have urgent food needs as a result of being displaced by the tornado, you can look for providers at familyservices.govt.nz/directory/ . A Red Cross help desk has also been set up at the Alan Brewster Centre. They are helping coordinate and connect with whanau who require help and advice. Auckland Council have a link to updated information that is also a helpful place to find information and support contact details. https://ourauckland.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/articles/news/2021/06/papatoetoe-tornado-welfare-centre-open-in-otara/

Yours sincerely,

MARK ELDER,

PRINCIPAL.
